The selected texts in this book are from silk manuscripts, silk paintings, bamboo slips, wooden tablets, and wooden plaques unearthed from tombs and sites across various regions during the Chu, Qin, and Han periods, with a focus on the silk manuscripts and bamboo slips from the Mawangdui Han Tomb in Changsha.
2. The transcriptions in this book are primarily based on the research findings of the reference works listed at the end of the book. For cases where opinions differ, the better choice is selected.
3. All texts in this book are printed in enlarged reproductions of the original traces to preserve the appearance of the original characters.
4. The main text of this book is organized according to the Kangxi Dictionary's radical indexing method, with the recorded order of each character arranged in chronological order.
5. Before each character in the texts, the character head is annotated, and after each character, the era and source are noted. For duplicate entries with the same source, only the last character is marked.
6. The main text of this book includes 3,388 single characters, which reach 28,000 when duplicate characters are counted. There are 72 composite characters. The appendix includes 187 newly unearthed single characters and one composite character from the Chu site in Cili.
