Features: Most members of the [Wumen Painting School] came from families with artistic heritage or received excellent cultural, with many excelling in poetry, calligraphy, and painting. Figures such as Lingzhi, Wengjia, Wenberen, Wangguxiang, and Qiangu included in this volume were renowned in their time. Even though Lingzhi, a self-taught artisan, primarily worked in heavy green and gold colors in his landscape paintings, his calligraphy style remained elegant and fresh. In his ink-and-wash paintings, he added a unique charm. His figure paintings, influenced by ancient traditions yet innovative, displayed exquisite and graceful calligraphy, especially his portraits of women, which were celebrated for their elegance and set a new trend. As for Lingzhi, his landscapes, inspired by Wen and imitating Song Dynasty masterpieces, developed a distinctive sharp and refined style. Wengjia and Wenberen, both adhering to family traditions, each had their own unique charm: the former was sparse and ethereal, while the latter was vigorous and crisp. Qiangu, though lacking deep calligraphy skills, possessed a refined and elegant charm, standing out with his high style. Wangguxiang excelled in flower-and-bird paintings, with both calligraphy and painting being outstanding, offering unique artistic insights. All of them contributed to the prosperity of the [Wumen Painting School]. This volume features fourteen painters and one hundred and one works.
