Can women with uterine fibroids get pregnant?

Patient's question:

I have been dating my husband for several years. Recently, we are preparing to get married. However, when we went to get our marriage certificate, they told us to undergo a pre-marital health check-up. We did, and the ultrasound results left us both shocked. I was found to have a fibroid measuring 3.62.9. I am so upset because of this, as it means I cannot get pregnant.

Doctor's answer:

It is possible. Generally, women with uterine fibroids, if the tumor diameter is less than 4 centimeters, can get pregnant early. However, if the tumor diameter is already below 4 centimeters before early pregnancy, it may grow during pregnancy, increasing the risk of further degeneration and causing miscarriage or premature birth. Alternatively, if the tumor diameter is less than 4 centimeters but located in an unfavorable position, such as within the uterine cavity, on the cervix, or pressing on the fallopian tubes, interfering with fertility, it is best to treat it first before getting pregnant. Medication treatment is usually sufficient, and applying certain topical medications can help shrink the tumor.
