Romantic country "France"

Author: Wu Songji
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: All human emotions can be expressed through "looking." Love at first sight is achieved through looking; non-verbal communication through gazes conveys emotions; conflicts arise from discerning disagreements through looking. Other examples include "looking sideways," "splintered eyes," "contempt," "scorn," "longing," and "staring." There are many ways humans look, and the art of looking is vast. One could say the history of human civilization cannot do without looking. Looking—facilitates communication; looking—adds color to the world. Many beautiful creations in the world stem from the need to look, such as architecture, decoration, clothing, movies, and books. Seeing is also a kind of fate; many stories in the world have unfolded because of encounters through looking.
How can one truly understand France and the French? This is the task of this book. With six years of experience as a visiting scholar, Chinese diplomat, UN project executive, and international official in France, the author hopes to present an authentic France to readers through personal experiences and insights—speaking French, eating French cuisine, driving themselves, and staying in hotels alone. The book strives to show France from historical, geographical, and people-centered perspectives, as well as in terms of politics, economy, and culture, using firsthand experiences and reflections.
The author truly looks at France with passion; writes about France with dedication; analyzes France with rigorous logic; and praises France with a rational approach. However, this book is merely a guide for readers to start understanding France. True understanding of France still depends on the readers themselves. If, as Mr. Jiang Zhilong said in the preface, this book can be considered "an insider's guide," that would be the author's greatest wish.
