Will I get pregnant after taking medication for an abortion and having sex?

Patient's question:

I recently had a medical abortion a short while ago. Yesterday, I had sex with my husband. Therefore, I want to ask if having sex after a medical abortion can lead to pregnancy?

Doctor's answer:

If you have undergone medication-induced abortion and have not yet fully restored your menstrual cycle, but it has been two weeks since the medication abortion was successful, engaging in sexual intercourse without taking precautions could very likely result in pregnancy. For safety, it is best to take emergency contraception promptly. If it has been less than 72 hours, there is no need to take emergency contraception. You will have to test with a pregnancy test strip or early pregnancy test about ten days after intercourse to see if you have become pregnant.
