Why does miscarriage cause distress?

Patient's question:

I got pregnant unexpectedly last September. Without knowing I was pregnant, I ate crabs. At 7 weeks, I suddenly had brown discharge from my vagina. Three days later, the discharge broke like my period. I went to the hospital for a thorough check, and both progesterone and hCG levels were very low, not meeting the full standard. I was given a 5-day attempt to save the pregnancy, but it still ended in a miscarriage. I'm very upset. What should I do?

Doctor's answer:

Early pregnancy miscarriage is often considered to be caused by abnormalities in the embryo's own growth and development. If there are two or more natural miscarriages in a row, both partners should undergo comprehensive and systematic examinations to rule out the possibility of chromosomal abnormalities in either of them. Additionally, a thorough physical examination of the female partner is necessary, as conditions such as thyroid dysfunction, severe diabetes, hypertension, and others may increase the risk of miscarriage. Early pregnancy miscarriage should generally be unrelated to the consumption of crabs.
