Features: It was in this era that the mural major at the Central Academy of Fine Arts was established. Twenty years ago, the mural cause in China was just beginning to flourish. Some teachers from the Central Academy of Fine Arts and the Central Academy of Arts & Crafts, who harbored dreams of reviving the national mural tradition, proposed a plan to promote the development of China's mural cause and cultivate a group of more professionally skilled talents. The establishment of the mural major at the Academy signified the beginning of the revival of "historically glorious" Chinese murals. A group of mural education pioneers, such as Zhang Ding, Hou Yimin, Zhou Lingzhao, Li Huaji, Yuan Yunfu, Liang Yunqing, Zhu Dainian, and others, did not confine the "mural industry" to a closed circle where a few artists could monopolize the patent. Instead, with greater passion, they devoted their later lives' efforts and energy to nurturing a new force of mural design and creation with updated knowledge structures and stronger competitive power. Over the past 20 years, contemporary Chinese murals have demonstrated unprecedented prosperity through the "interaction" and "mutual growth" between teaching and creation. We will never forget the predecessors who pioneered the mural education in this new era. I sincerely admire their selfless foresight and wisdom. This book collects various forms of art works, including sketches, quick sketches, watercolors, and sculptures, from first-year and senior students of the mural department at the Central Academy of Fine Arts.
