Patient's question:
Doctor, I heard from a friend that some people have ectopic pregnancy. What causes it? I've just found out I'm pregnant, but I don't know if it could be ectopic. I'm very scared!Doctor's answer:
Ectopic pregnancy, also known as tubal pregnancy, refers to the implantation and development of a fertilized egg outside the uterine cavity. The most commonly discussed type is tubal pregnancy.First, the early symptoms of ectopic pregnancy include: missed periods, with most patients experiencing a delay of 6 to 8 weeks, though some may have no obvious missed periods, or mistake vaginal bleeding for a normal menstrual cycle. Abdominal pain is caused by the rupture of the fallopian tube, often presenting as sharp, one-sided lower abdominal pain, accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and a sensation of rectal fullness. If the rupture is severe, the pain can be excruciating.
