How to diagnose ectopic pregnancy?

Patient's question:

Menstruation arrived on the 8th of this month. On the 5th, there were a few drops of blood and it stopped. On the 16th, there was red in the white discharge.

Doctor's answer:

Ectopic pregnancy accounts for the majority of cases in clinical practice, but these patients often exhibit subtle clinical manifestations, making it difficult to diagnose solely based on clinical examinations, with an accuracy rate of only about 50%. For early pregnant women with abdominal pain or/and vaginal bleeding, routine ultrasound examinations and blood hCG and progesterone tests should be conducted, as most cases can be determined early. Generally, the levels of blood hCG and progesterone in ectopic pregnancy patients are lower than those in normal pregnant women. For early pregnant women, especially those with high-risk factors for ectopic pregnancy, auxiliary examinations should be performed to determine the location of pregnancy. 80% of ectopic pregnancies can be diagnosed before rupture.
