What are the main manifestations of bacterial vaginosis?

Patient's question:

I have been 44 days postpartum, and during my follow-up check-up at the hospital, I was diagnosed with bacterial vaginosis. The gynecological examination done before childbirth did not show this condition. I am very worried. My baby is currently drinking formula milk, as I am not breastfeeding, so I can take medication. However, my stomach is not doing well, and I have no appetite for dinner now. I would like to ask how to treat this. Thank you.

Doctor's answer:

Bacterial vaginosis is primarily characterized by an increase in vaginal discharge, which is often purulent and has a foul odor. The vagina may have a burning sensation,,, and may be accompanied by pelvic discomfort and general fatigue. During gynecological examination, the vaginal mucosa may be found to be red, swollen, and tender, with continuous discharge, which may be purulent or even form crusts. Under microscopic examination of the discharge, a large number of pus cells can be observed, and the pathogenic bacteria can be identified. However, trichomonas and fungi will never be found in the discharge.
