Features: This book is a comprehensive reference work introducing rivers and dams around the world, as well as a richly informative and data-intensive applied science and technology publication on water conservancy and hydropower. The book is divided into three parts, totaling approximately 2 million words.
Part 1 is the Rivers Section, where any independent river system meeting one of the following three criteria is introduced as a separate entry: length of over 1,000 km, river mouth flow rate of over 1,000 m3/s, or drainage area of over 100,000 km2.
Part 2 is the Dams and Hydropower Stations Section, where any project meeting one of the following three criteria is introduced as a separate entry: dam height of over 100 m, reservoir capacity of over 3 billion m3, or installed capacity of over 300,000 kW.
Part 3 is the Information and Data Section, which provides various classified statistical data on important water conservancy and hydropower projects worldwide, as well as statistical data on the technical and economic characteristics of water conservancy and hydropower engineering. For the convenience of readers, the book includes a detailed English index, and reference page numbers are appended to the statistical tables.
The introductions to each entry vary in length, depending on the technical and economic indicators of the entry itself. Some entries are as long as tens of thousands of words, while others are only a few hundred. The basic content of each entry is as follows: River entries introduce the geographical location, drainage area, length, flow rate, river system composition, water resources, and current development and utilization status of the river; project entries introduce the geographical location, natural conditions, structural components, construction process, and engineering characteristics of the project.
This book serves as a reference for science and technology professionals in the fields of water conservancy and hydropower, as well as for faculty and students at universities and colleges. It is a treasured resource for comprehensive and specialized libraries (information repositories) and a valuable guide for readers at all levels in hydrology, geography, river studies, regional economic planning, and related fields.
