How many weeks of pregnancy should one go for prenatal care?

Patient's question:

Doctor, I am 23 years old this year. We got married not long ago and got pregnant. Since it is my first pregnancy, I feel quite nauseous and keep wanting to vomit. I want to do prenatal care. Could you please tell me when I should have my first prenatal check-up after getting pregnant?

Doctor's answer:

If your menstrual period is delayed by seven days, you should undergo a thorough examination to confirm pregnancy. Generally, prenatal examinations are scheduled around weeks 6 to 7 of pregnancy. The first step is an ultrasound examination to confirm intrauterine pregnancy and fetal viability. Within the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, you need to visit a healthcare institution designated by the health administrative department to establish a medical record. Additionally, you will need to undergo tests for liver function, kidney function, blood sugar, hepatitis B surface antigen, blood type, Rh factor, HIV, and syphilis, among other items. You must fast for at least 8 hours before the tests. Between weeks 11 to 13, day 6 of pregnancy, an NT scan should be performed to screen for chromosomal abnormalities in the early stages.
