Features: The reading comprehension section in the Japanese Language Proficiency Test (JLPT) is relatively difficult and carries a high weight in the exam. Many candidates, despite practicing extensively for the test, still struggle with this section, sometimes even leading to failure. The reasons for this include insufficient vocabulary, weak grammar skills, and a lack of mastery in reading strategies and problem-solving techniques. The reading comprehension questions feature passages of varying lengths, genres, and content, but they all follow certain inherent patterns in their question formulation. The purpose of this book is to identify these patterns through the analysis and organization of recent past exam questions, combined with the authors' years of experience in tutoring candidates. It aims to clarify these patterns and propose corresponding problem-solving methods for reference by candidates. We believe that these methods and techniques are highly targeted, concise, and easy to learn. By using them, learners can quickly identify key words, understand the underlying logic of the questions, and thus arrive at the correct answers. We also hope that this book will help candidates move beyond the of "mindless practice" and achieve twice the result with half the effort.
This book has the following distinct features:
1. Emphasizes reading methods and problem-solving techniques
2. Selects materials suitable for general exam requirements, (also offering reading value)
3. Reveals the key constraints on reading proficiency and summarizes (exam-taking patterns)
4. Provides in-depth analysis of complex sentence structures in difficult passages
To enhance the engagement of candidates in exam reading, this book includes an excerpt summary and subheadings before each example passage. The excerpt summaries focus on introducing the content of the selected passages and highlighting key practice points. The added subheadings are not originally part of the exam questions and may not appear in future exams. Readers are advised to pay attention to this. Additionally, to avoid making the subheadings additional hints that could lower the reading difficulty, the book strives to ensure that subheadings are not summaries or hints for the passages. As a result, some subheadings may seem distant from the original text content.
The materials used in this book are partially derived from past JLPT reading comprehension questions of corresponding levels and partially excerpted from original works of Japanese newspapers, magazines, and books. The sources of the selected passages are as clearly indicated as possible.
