Publication Date: 2003-04-01
Features: Unveil the dark mysteries behind the rule of the Empress Dowager, Cixi, and dramatize the suspense of right and wrong, truth and illusion. Those who are both firm and gentle often use gentleness to overcome firmness where firmness is needed and use firmness to overcome gentleness where gentleness is needed. The fluctuations of life and the entanglement of power lie not in firmness or gentleness alone, but in the skillful combination of both, which can make the strong submit and lift the weak up. Cixi was adept at calculation, always thinking through her options, with a set of strategies to manipulate hearts and minds, employing a blend of yin and yang. Clashing head-on often sparks fire, while soft against soft often leads to weakness. For example, by grasping both the concepts of "firmness" with the left hand and "gentleness" with the right, one can deal with anyone, no matter how yin or yang they are. The author of this book offers a comprehensive perspective on the life of the Empress Dowager Cixi, demonstrating her skillful use of both firmness and gentleness, with the intention of revealing the hidden aspects of her life behind the scenes.
