Why is the menstrual flow light and the color not bright red?

Patient's question:

I have been experiencing very little menstrual flow for the past few months, and the color is not bright red. There are basically no blood clots, and it is often dark or even dark black. Previously, it was only dark in the last few days. Why have I been experiencing these symptoms recently?

Doctor's answer:

Normal menstrual color is dark red, with a volume of 30 to 50 milliliters, which is normal. If, in recent months, menstrual volume is again reduced and the color becomes dark black, this is an abnormal sign. It is temporarily not ruled out that it may be related to gynecological diseases, such as uterine diseases or endocrine disorders. Additionally, if rest is poor, excessive dieting, or mood is depressed, it can also affect normal menstruation.
