Features: Ming and Qing dynasty porcelain is renowned not only for its rich forms and high craftsmanship but also for its exquisite decorative designs, holding a significant place in the history of Chinese ceramics. Especially in the Ming and Qing dynasties, dragon and phoenix designs were more widely applied on porcelain and displayed greater diversity in style. Whether it be the rigorous and delicate dragon and phoenix designs from official kilns or the free and unrestrained ones from civilian kilns, all reflect the characteristics of their respective eras. This book collects over 500 pieces of Ming and Qing dynasty porcelain adorned with dragon and phoenix designs, categorized into chapters such as Cloud Dragon Patterns, Sea Dragon Patterns, Front-View Dragon Patterns, Dragon Patterns with Playing Pearl, Flower-Adorned Dragon Patterns, Circular Dragon Patterns, Qui Patterns, Phoenix and Peony Patterns, and Dragon and Phoenix Patterns, among others. From layout, painting techniques, and colors, it provides a detailed explanation and chronological identification of dragon and phoenix designs across different dynasties. During the discussion process, not only are comparisons made between dragon and phoenix designs of different dynasties, but also differences and similarities between official and civilian kilns, as well as comparisons between authentic and counterfeit pieces. Special attention is given to close-up enlargements of specific details—such as dragon heads, claws, phoenix heads, or wings—which eliminate the problem of overlooking fine details and allow for distinctions to be identified at a microscopic level. Additionally, auxiliary motifs like clouds, seas, and fire pearls provide strong evidence for chronological identification.
