Chapter "Overview of Meridians," elaborates on the main components of the meridian system, the functions of meridians, and the clinical application of the theory. Through this chapter, students can understand the basic concepts of meridians and get a general outline of the meridian system. Chapter "Overview of Acupoints," introduces the classification, naming, localization methods, functions, therapeutic regularities of acupoints, and the concept and application of specific acupoints, helping students understand the concept of acupoints, grasp the basic content of acupoint theory, and its clinical significance. To facilitate students in understanding the historical development of meridians and acupoints, Chapter 3 discusses the formation of meridian and acupoint theory and the historical evolution of its academic development.
The middle part is the detailed discussion of meridians and acupoints, which is the main body of this book. From Chapter 4 to Chapter 15, it covers the content of the twelve meridians and their corresponding acupoints. First, the distribution and syndromes of meridians are discussed, followed by the localization, therapeutic functions, needling and moxibustion methods, and anatomy of acupoints, enabling students to gain a specific and comprehensive understanding of the theory and application of meridians and acupoints. Chapter 16 introduces the distribution, functions, and syndromes of the eight extraordinary meridians. The description of acupoints for Ren and Du meridians follows the same format as the twelve meridians. Chapter 17 provides a concise introduction to commonly used extraordinary acupoints. At the end of the book, there are three color illustrations of the 14 meridians and acupoints and commonly used extraordinary acupoints to help students have a general understanding and comparison of human acupoints. The focus of the middle part is on the circulation and distribution of meridians, the meridians' connections to internal organs, and a summary of acupoint localization and therapeutic functions.
The lower part, Chapter 18 "Vertical and Horizontal Relationships of Meridians," elaborates on the basic concepts, content, and significance and application of root-ends, root-and-branch, Qi-jie, and Si-hai. This facilitates students' comprehensive understanding of the vertical and horizontal, internal and external relationships of meridians and the functional regularities of acupoints. Chapter 19 "Modern Research on Meridians and Acupoints," introduces some recent research findings in meridian and acupoint studies, as well as views and hypotheses regarding the essence of meridians and acupoints, aiming to inspire and cultivate students' research ideas and methods. At the end of the book, the appendix includes commonly used meridian and acupoint odes and songs, as well as the content of Pulse Book · Eleven Pulses, for reference during study.
