Can prenatal checks detect cerebral palsy?

Patient's question:

Can prenatal checks detect cerebral palsy?

Doctor's answer:

There are many causes of cerebral palsy. Some are brought about by brain responses during birth. Routine prenatal examinations cannot detect them. If a detailed prenatal ultrasound examination reveals neural tube defects or significant brain inflammation that causes cerebral palsy, it can be identified through ultrasound. However, if the inflammation is not obvious or insufficient to be detected by existing examination methods, it cannot be identified during pregnancy.
