Features: This textbook is divided into two parts. The first part, General Principles, focuses on introducing the brief history of the development of formula studies, formulas and treatment methods, as well as basic knowledge of formula classification, composition and combination, dosage forms, and usage. The second part, Specific Formulas, classifies formulas mainly according to treatment methods and functions, dividing them into 19 categories such as exterior-relieving, purgative, harmonizing, clearing heat, warming the interior, and tonifying, selecting a total of 362 formulas, including basic formulas, representative formulas, and commonly used clinical formulas, with 182 major formulas and 180 supplementary formulas. At the end, there are additional sections titled "Formula Chanting" and "Index of Formula Names."
Each category (chapter) of formulas is divided into four parts: Overview, Major Formulas, Summary, and Review Questions. The Overview includes the definition, treatment method, function, scope of application, usage notes, and, clinical characteristics, commonly used herbs, combination methods, and representative formulas for each category. The Major Formulas section covers the name and origin, composition, usage, function, main indications, explanation, application, supplementary formulas, literature summary, clinical reports, and experimental research. The Summary section provides a concise and comparative overview of each category, detailing the similarities and differences of the formulas in the category. The Review Questions are designed based on the key content that must be mastered in each chapter, aiming to cultivate students' independent thinking and comprehensive analytical abilities.
