Features: The management of invasive alien species is a key issue and an important component of the Convention on Biological Diversity. The Convention on Biological Diversity stipulates that it is necessary to prevent and control the impact of invasive alien species on biodiversity. The Conference of the Parties to the Convention has formulated and adopted the "Guiding Principles on Preventing, Introducing, and Reducing the Impact of Alien Species Threatening Biodiversity," which requires countries to prioritize alien species issues and develop national biodiversity policies, strategies, and action plans. It encourages parties to strengthen capacity-building, conduct risk assessments and analyses of the threats posed by invasive alien species to biodiversity, and formulate economic incentives and penalties, as well as other policies and measures, to reduce activities that threaten invasive alien species. This book provides a detailed introduction to the current status of invasive alien species in China and their impacts and causes on the economy, environment, biodiversity, and human health. It elaborates on the taxonomic status, identification features, biological characteristics, native origins, reasons for introduction and spread, and harms of 127 invasive alien species, as well as how to control them. The book features an active layout and can serve as an educational tool to raise public, management, and research personnel's awareness of invasive alien species issues. It can also be used as a reference for strengthening China's management and research on invasive alien species.
