Features: Beijing is one of the first pilot cities for sustainable development in China. Over the years, it has actively explored the implementation of sustainable development strategies at the local level, developing a technical model of "learning while doing" and "doing while improving." In areas such as sustainable development awareness campaigns and training, the construction of sustainable development experimental zones, sustainable development consulting and services, the implementation of priority projects for sustainable development, and domestic and international exchanges and cooperation, substantial work has been carried out, achieving phased results. Through publicity and training, the awareness of sustainable development among cadres and the public has been raised; through the establishment of experimental zones, sustainable development demonstration models have been set up, accumulating valuable experience; through international cooperation, key action plans for Beijing's economic and social development have been successfully implemented, yielding many valuable policy research outcomes; and through the formulation and implementation of the "China Agenda 21—Beijing Action Plan," combined with the strategic goals of the 11th Five-Year Plan, sustainable development awareness has been gradually translated into practical actions, further enhancing Beijing's comprehensive capacity for urban sustainable development. To further promote sustainable development in our city, we have organized relevant experts and scholars to summarize and explore sustainable development theories and the recent practical experience of sustainable development in Beijing. The findings have been compiled into this book, aiming to provide a rich and diverse, flexible-format popular science reading material on sustainable development for a wide range of experts and scholars engaged in sustainable development work, government officials, other professionals concerned with sustainable development in Beijing, and the general public. However, due to limited expertise, there may be some inaccuracies, and we sincerely welcome feedback and corrections from our readers.
