Is a D&C used for early pregnancy miscarriage?

Patient's question:

I didn't know I was pregnant. After doing intense exercise, I had a miscarriage. Is D&C (Dilation and Curettage) used for early pregnancy miscarriage?

Doctor's answer:

In this case, it depends on how the residual tissue reappears in the uterine cavity after a natural miscarriage. Therefore, if it is confirmed that a natural miscarriage has occurred again, it is necessary to visit the hospital promptly for a careful ultrasound examination. If there is no residual tissue in the uterine cavity, a Dilation and Curettage (D&C) procedure is not required. Instead, you can take anti-inflammatory and blood-activating medications orally for a few days. If there is residual tissue but it is small in volume, you can also take blood-activating and uterine contraction-enhancing medications for a few days. If the amount of residual tissue is significant, a D&C procedure will be necessary.
