Features: Those parts indeed exist, even though they are not represented by lines. The same principle applies—sometimes we can also understand clear and complete concepts that are not expressed in words. The human body is a fluid composed of its own two ends. What we face is absolute reality, as well as the tension of the empty void. Yet, can’t the blank space on paper express the vastness of space? Of course it can. Giacometti not only abandoned the inertia of material substances but also excluded the inertia of absolute nothingness. Vacuum is an expanded entity, and matter is a localized vacuum, from which reality thus bursts with sparks. I remember one night when I returned to my hometown, having failed to find some old friends, I almost became a stranger. So, I pushed open the door of a café. Suddenly, an inexplicable panic overwhelmed me—almost I could say. I could hardly understand how these low, bulky buildings could conceal such a wasteland. I was bewildered. The patrons scattered at the tables seemed to me more distant than the stars in the sky. Any one of them had the right to a vast dwelling place, a complete marble table, yet to reach them, I had to cross the "smooth floor" that separated us.
