Features: This book systematically introduces the basic methods and theories of optimization and can serve as a textbook for senior undergraduate and graduate students in mathematics and other STEM disciplines. It is also suitable for college teachers, engineering technicians, and researchers for self-study and reference. The following points were considered in the writing of this book:
(1) Striving for clarity and accessibility, making it suitable for both teaching and self-study.
(2) Focusing on methods that have been proven effective through practice. Each selected method is introduced from its fundamental idea, with detailed theoretical explanations and complete formula guidance, allowing readers to gain a thorough understanding of the entire algorithm and each step.
(3) Emphasizing practicality while also prioritizing theory. The book is divided into nine chapters. Chapter 1 introduces the basic concepts of optimization and mathematical prerequisites, forming the foundation of the entire book. Chapter 2 covers linear search techniques, which are a crucial pillar of optimization methods. Chapters 3 and 6 are parts where the theory is mature and the methods are highly effective. The first four chapters are essential reading for beginners. Chapters 4 and 5 are relatively independent and can be optionally read. Chapters 7 to 9 discuss nonlinear constrained optimization theories and methods. As a textbook, the book can be covered in 70 hours of instruction.
