Features: Mason Mystery. In "The Unfortunate Model," the dealer Rijn, furious, comes to Mason asking him to be a lawyer to sue Durant—a man who claims to be a dealer—for libel, because Durant told the former model Miss Maxine that a painting sold by Rijn was a forgery. Mason obtained Miss Maxine's written testimony as a witness for this matter, but soon after, Durant died in Miss Maxine's apartment, the murder weapon being Miss Maxine's gun. Mason launched a full-scale defense to save Miss Maxine.
In "The Woman Who Was Trapped," a barbed wire fence divides an entire house from the inside out, with a man and a woman living on either side. They are opposing parties fighting over the property rights of the house. The man hires Mason as his agent to handle the matter, but the situation evolves to the point where Mason becomes the defense attorney for both sides. This is because the ex-husband of the woman was killed in the house, making both opposing parties co-defendants in a murder case.
