Features: In the mid-Qing Dynasty, Yangzhou flourished with the benefits of grain transport and salt trade, leading to prosperous commerce and abundant civilian wealth. This attracted numerous painters to gather there, earning a living by selling their artworks. A group of innovative painters skilled in freehand flower-and-bird painting emerged, responding to the demands of the era and rising in the art world, known as the "Yangzhou School of Painting." The "Yangzhou School of Painting" broke free from the habit of rigidly adhering to ancient methods. Their artistic creation emphasized individual expression, deliberate innovation, and often integrated poetry with painting, imbuing their works with strong subjective emotions. The style was unrestrained and rustic, appealing to both refined and popular tastes, leading to unprecedented development in freehand flower-and-bird painting. It not only met the aesthetic demands of the time but also expanded the new realm of literati painting. This volume collects 124 works and 340 illustrations by painters of the "Yangzhou School of Painting" from the mid-Qing Dynasty.
