Publishing Date: 2004-09-01
Features: The book is divided into two parts, the Main Compilation and the Supplementary Compilation. The Main Compilation includes three newly added poems: "He Xilang · Parting with a Friend," "Seven-Character Poem · In Memory of Comrade Luo Huan," and "He Xilang · Reading History." The poems in the Supplementary Compilation are all based on the "Selected Poems of Mao Zedong" edited by the Documentation and Research Center of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and published by the Central Documentation Press in September 1996, with a new arrangement. There are 42 poems in the Main Compilation, all of which were proofread and finalized by Mao Zedong. Except for the three newly added poems, which were decided to be published by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China in September 1978 after Mao Zedong's passing, all were published during his lifetime. The Supplementary Compilation contains 25 poems, each with different circumstances. Eight of them are widely circulated or have and were included in the "Selected Poems of Mao Zedong" published by the People's Literature Publishing House in 1986. The other 17 were mostly unpublished works when included in the "Selected Poems of Mao Zedong." The basis for their publication, except for a few that are manuscripts, are copies made by Mao Zedong's staff members at the time according to the manuscripts. Most of them were preserved and repeatedly revised by Mao Zedong himself, while a few were unfinished drafts that may have been left uncorrected due to forgetting or lost manuscripts.
