Features: Collecting, organizing, and compiling ancient documents. Although not a creative cultural construction effort, the contributions made to cultural preservation and dissemination are significant, arguably no less than, and sometimes even greater than, those of creators. Book of Han·Geographic Records and Annotations to the Waterways Classic are two highly valuable ancient Chinese geographical works. The possession of these two masterpieces in China's cultural treasure trove is naturally attributed to Ban Gu and Li Daoyuan. However, their contributions primarily lie not in their own writings, but in their efforts to gather and compile numerous valuable original geographical works, ensuring that these precious materials were not scattered or lost, allowing them to be passed down to future generations until today. Without Ban and Li, many highly valuable but short original works would not have been preserved and passed on.
