Features: The ancient bronze mirrors of China originated in the Neolithic Copper-Stone Age, with decorative patterns primarily featuring geometric shapes. During the Warring States period, bronze mirrors developed a more standardized and complete system, introducing various techniques such as openwork carving and painted designs. By the Han Dynasty, bronze mirror craftsmanship gradually flourished, with decorative patterns becoming more diverse and often depicted themes through round sculptures, as well as inscriptions being widely engraved. After a period of decline during the Wei, Jin, and Southern and Northern Dynasties, the art of bronze mirrors reached another peak during the Sui and Tang dynasties. Not only did specialized techniques like gold-silver inlay and mother-of-pearl mosaic emerge, but the decorative motifs and styles also underwent new developments and changes. During the Song and Liao dynasties, bronze mirrors appeared in various forms, including bottle-shaped, bell-shaped, and handle mirrors. In the Yuan, Ming, and Qing dynasties, numerous antique-style mirrors emerged, featuring multiple auspicious symbols and blessings in their decorations, while bronze mirror craftsmanship gradually declined. This book selects over 200 bronze mirrors from various historical periods, including some rare pieces from overseas collections, systematically reflecting the historical characteristics of ancient Chinese bronze mirrors.
