Features: China's coastal waters are vast, with a continental coastline stretching over 18,000 km. The complex coastline of the mainland and islands has formed numerous excellent harbors and tidal flats. The tidal flats and shallow waters with depths of less than 5 meters in the Bohai, Yellow, East China, and South China Seas cover over 14 million hectares. Among these, the shallow sea area exceeds 12 million hectares, and the intertidal flat area covers more than 2 million hectares. The vast area is rich in natural feed. China's coastal regions have a diverse natural distribution of bivalves, with over 40 species suitable for cultivation. Seed sources are abundant, thanks to the widespread adoption of techniques such as semi-artificial collection in natural sea areas, industrialized indoor artificial culture, and artificial culture in ponds, which provide ample seed resources for bivalve cultivation. In recent two decades, China's bivalve farming has seen significant development. Bivalve farming occupies an increasingly larger share in marine aquaculture due to its low input, high efficiency, reduced labor, and relatively simple management techniques, as it effectively utilizes natural mortality to a great extent. In recent years, China's bivalve products have not only met domestic demand but also shown a growing trend in exports. While the bivalve farming industry has developed, researchers in China's aquatic science and technology have also made deeper advancements in basic biology, ecology, and breeding techniques aimed at promoting bivalve production. Additionally, numerous books on bivalve farming production techniques have been published.
