Features: The content of this book is broadly divided into three parts. Part 1 consists of the first three chapters, primarily introducing the fundamental knowledge, basic concepts, and basic transmission requirements of communication networks. Chapter 1 provides an overview of the broader network environment; Chapter 2 discusses the hierarchical structure of network protocols, using the Internet as an example to illustrate the implementation of protocol layer design; Chapter 3 introduces the transmission characteristics of digital signals for different media such as audio, video, images, and text, as well as the basic requirements for networks, and also covers basic error detection techniques. Part 2 takes different communication networks as examples to introduce the main technologies of different network protocol layers and their applications in various networks. This part consists of Chapters 4 to 9. Chapter 4 discusses the physical layer connections, switching, and multiplexing of telephone networks and their transmission systems; Chapter 5 discusses peer-to-peer protocols, focusing on the basic principles and methods of several control mechanisms; Chapter 6 discusses shared medium access control technologies, providing a detailed introduction to random access, reservation access, and channelized access control methods, while also dedicating significant to introducing the basic access methods of mobile communication networks and wireless local area networks; Chapter 7 introduces generalized packet-switching networks, carefully comparing connection-oriented and connectionless transmission in packet networks, and also covers routing in packet networks, basic algorithms, and their implementation, as well as necessary introductions to congestion control in packet networks; Chapter 8 comprehensively discusses the TCP/IP protocols of the Internet, primarily introducing various routing algorithms of the Internet and discussing routing selection for mobile IP and multicast; Chapter 9 introduces ATM networks, focusing on the impact of different types of connections on quality of service and related control mechanisms, and also discusses the application of the adaptation layer in different communication services. Part 3 covers some hot topics from previous research. Chapter 10 introduces methods for running IP over ATM; Chapter 11 discusses network security issues and the latest standards; Chapter 12 introduces the requirements of multimedia services for networks, including mod/data conversion technologies and their applications in different media along with related standards. In summary, this book is extensive in scope, with novel content; it provides both basic introductions and in-depth analyses, along with a large number of exercises, making it suitable as a teaching material for undergraduate and graduate students in computer science, electronics, and related fields, or as a reference for network technicians and service personnel in various industries.
