Features: Say Characters and Explain Words is a textbook written in dictionary form for beginners of Chinese and foreigners with a certain foundation in Chinese characters. It was created by Professor BAI Lesang of the French Ministry of Education, who has many years of experience in teaching Chinese as a second language, and co-edited with Mr. CUI Jianxin of Nankai University in China. It includes approximately 7,000 Chinese words, all explained in Chinese according to students' actual proficiency levels. The explanations are tiered and progressive: Tier 1 uses the 200 most frequent characters to explain the basic meanings of words; Tier 2 uses 400 high-frequency characters (including the first 200) to explain, allowing for the expression of more complex meanings and content.
