History of Western and American Literature in the 20th Century (3)

Author: Li Mingbin, Editor-in-Chief
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2001-07-01
Features: Each volume includes a chapter providing an overview of Western and Southern European literature during that period. It then divides the content into seven chapters, organized by country and region:
1. French-speaking countries and Southern European literature
2. German-speaking countries, Dutch literature, and Nordic literature
3. British literature
4. Spanish and Portuguese literature
5. Soviet and Eastern European literature
6. American and Canadian literature
7. Latin American literature.
Within these seven chapters, each begins with a section titled "Overview," which primarily covers the general outline of literary development and key authors and works. Sometimes, it is further divided into three categories—poetry, fiction, and drama—or into smaller stages of development.
The third and fourth volumes cover a period exceeding half a century, and their scope is accordingly substantial. However, when it comes to literary achievements, quality has always been valued over quantity. After all, the literature of an era is ultimately marked by its greatest writers.
