Nicomachean Ethics

Author: [Ancient Greek] Aristotle
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-12-01
Features: After the complete works of Aristotle (10 volumes) were published in Chinese in 1997, they won several awards, including the Fourth National Book Award (1999) and the First Prize of the Excellent Achievement Project of the National Social Science Fund (1999). To facilitate readers' use and to share his insights into Western philosophy, especially ancient Greek philosophy, Mr. Miao Litian, the editor-in-chief of the complete works, compiled and selected an annotated "Selected Works of Aristotle" (including volumes on Metaphysics, Ethics, and Politics, published in 1999–2000). Over the years, many readers, especially undergraduates and graduate students, have reported the need for individual volumes of Aristotle's works. To meet this demand, we have published the most influential works of Aristotle (On Interpretation, Physics, Metaphysics, Nicomachean Ethics, Politics, and Rhetoric·Rhetoric of Alexander·On Poetry) in standalone volumes. It should be noted that the translations in the standalone volumes largely coincide with those of the complete works. Some changes to specific terms and names were personally corrected by Mr. Miao Litian during the reprinting of the complete works and the creation of the electronic version. The annotations in the standalone volumes are consistent with those of the complete works. The Greek words cited in the footnotes of the complete works are spelled according to the alphabet of the National "Hanyu Pinyin Scheme."
Introducing and studying the masterpieces of Western philosophy is an endless endeavor. Accurate and perfect translations, in-depth and detailed annotations, as well as creative interpretations and developments, are ideals that can only be approached but never fully achieved. Continuously striving toward this ideal relies not only on the efforts of the academic community but also on the support of the publishing industry. We are committed to working alongside the academic community to make continuous contributions to academic progress.
