Features: During the writing process of this book, the authors referred to a large number of references. While drawing on others' strengths and combining their own teaching experience and practical experience in conducting sampling survey projects, they made summaries,, and generalizations. This book has the following features: 1. Emphasizes the practical application of sampling techniques. Sampling techniques have a strong theoretical nature, but we still regard them as an applied course. In the discussion, emphasis is placed on the application of methods, such as the application scenarios, conditions, and comparative characteristics of different methods. To maintain consistency with the overall tone and style of the book, it does not adhere to theoretical derivations but places the necessary mathematical derivations in the appendices at the end of each chapter. Omitting these derivations does not hinder the understanding of the book's content. Some examples and exercises in the book are based on actual survey projects we have conducted. The calculation parts of the exercises provide reference answers for learners to check. 2. Two chapters in the book are not commonly found in other textbooks but are very practical. One is "Variance Estimation for Complex Samples." Theoretically, this chapter is more complex, but it aligns with the development trend of modern sampling techniques, and the advancement of computer technology has also facilitated variance estimation for complex samples. In fact, many variance estimation software algorithms are derived from this chapter. The other is "Non-Sampling Errors in Surveys." Extensive practice in sampling surveys has shown that non-sampling errors are becoming a very important factor affecting the quality of survey data. This chapter discusses the causes of several major non-sampling errors, models for measuring non-sampling errors, methods for controlling non-sampling errors, and methods for adjusting missing data caused by non-response. 3. Strengthen case studies. The book selects the Current Population Survey (CPS) in the United States as a case study and dedicates a chapter to introducing and analyzing it. The reason for choosing CPS is that it is one of the most internationally renowned large-scale household sampling surveys, with a history of over 60 years of development. It embodies the essence of thoughts from survey statisticians around the world, with a scientific and ingenious design, making it a classic in sampling surveys. From the design and methods of CPS, we can gain many valuable insights and references. 4. Strengthen the integration of sampling techniques and computer technology. One of the most important and complex tasks in sampling surveys is calculating the variance of estimators, but traditional statistical software still cannot directly calculate the variance of estimators for different sampling designs. In response to this situation, the book introduces computer-specific software for variance estimation in the appendices. This section includes two aspects: one is a general introduction to the variance estimation software commonly used internationally, and the other is a specific introduction to the use of the "PCCARP" software. This software is quite comprehensive and can meet the needs of variance estimation under usual conditions. Its main features are relatively simple operation and low cost, making it more suitable for promotion and use in developing countries. This book can be used as a textbook for statistics majors in sampling survey courses, or as a teaching material or reference book for non-statistics majors and various personnel learning sampling techniques. The book covers a lot of content, and learners can make selections based on different needs.
