Features: Ma Cai, also known as Cai Zhenzi, styled Junbai, was born on April 20, 1904, in Haicheng Town, Haifeng County, Guangdong Province. In October 1921, Ma Cai was sent to Japan for study at the expense of the Guangdong authorities. After graduating from the sixth high school in Okayama, Japan, in 1927, he entered the Department of Philosophy at the Kyoto Imperial University, studying under the renowned Japanese philosopher Watanabe Kaitaro and later switched to specialize in symptomology under the famous Japanese aesthetician Fushida Yasuzumi. Later, under the guidance of Professor Ueda Shigeru, he completed his undergraduate studies in 1931, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. Subsequently, he entered the graduate school of the Tokyo Imperial University, studying art and art history under the guidance of Professor Shen Jingyi. In 1933, after graduation, he returned to China to teach at Sun Yat-sen University. In early 1939, he was promoted to the position of professor. In 1950, he was sent to the Southern University for further studies and returned to teach at Sun Yat-sen University after graduation. In 1952, due to the nationwide reorganization of academic institutions, he was transferred to teach at Peking University. In 1960, when the Department of Philosophy was reopened at Sun Yat-sen University, he returned to work there. This book introduces the lecture series of the German philosopher Fichte: To the German People and selected works of the Japanese aesthetician Sawaki Shohaku.
