Features: Herpes (herpes simplex) is a cluster of herpes occurring at the junction of skin and mucosa caused by infection with human herpesvirus. Herpes simplex virus is divided into Type I and Type II. Type I primarily infects areas above the waist, such as the face; Type II primarily infects areas below the waist, such as the external genitalia. This section only discusses facial herpes mainly caused by Type I virus. Genital herpes mainly caused by Type II virus is referred to in the section on sexually transmitted diseases. This disease is mainly transmitted through direct contact. The virus invades the human body through the mouth, nasal pharynx, conjunctiva, and broken skin. About 90% of people do not show clinical symptoms (subclinical type), while only about 10% have clinical manifestations (primary herpes simplex). Subsequently, the body produces antibodies to eliminate most of the virus. A few viruses invade peripheral nerves and travel along the axons to the trigeminal ganglia or sensory ganglia, in nerve cells. Certain triggers can cause recurrence of this disease (recurrent herpes simplex). The main pathological changes of this disease include ballooning degeneration, reticular degeneration, and coagulative necrosis of epidermal cells, with epidermal separation forming blisters. Viral inclusion bodies can be seen inside the cells. The papilla of the dermis shows mild edema, with inflammatory cell infiltration around blood vessels. This book comprehensively elaborates on the diagnosis and treatment of viral skin diseases, staphylococcal skin diseases, fungal skin diseases, physical skin diseases, and neurofunctional skin diseases based on clinical practice.
