Features: Born in Denmark in July 1830. In 1841, he was sent to France by his father for studies. In 1847, he met Danish painter Fritz Melbye and went to Venezuela. In 1855, he went to Paris to study painting and met Corot. In 1859, he participated in the official salon exhibition and met Monet. In 1863, his works began to be rejected by the official jury. In 1870, the Franco-Prussian War broke out, and he temporarily fled to England, with many of his works severely damaged. In June 1871, he returned to Paris, reunited with Monet, and met Constable. In 1874, he participated in the first Impressionist exhibition in Paris and faced criticism. In 1885, through Sisley, he met Seurat and shifted his interest to the theory of Neo-Impressionism. In 1892, he held a large-scale exhibition that was a success. In 1899, his works were highly valued at auction. He passed away in November 1903 at the age of 73.
