Garden Villa 6

Features: The architectural career of McInturf reminds us all that the happiness architecture brings us can only be found in its process of formation and in the things we can specifically grasp. Each project of McInturf introduced in this book fully demonstrates his emphasis and preference for detailed treatment. In the Andrewes Bews Villa and Studio project, the intersection of beams and columns is an example of treating structural issues as sculpture. The Bronstein Cohen Library design, with its carefully considered proportions, scale, and spaces rich in detailed treatment, evokes the Villa/Studio of Frank Lloyd Wright in Oak Park, Illinois. The exterior of the Tasque Villa shows that relatively simple, local materials can achieve a certain degree of scale and expressiveness. In the Kim's Villa project, the staircase is a masterful work of detailed design, clearly illustrating the relationship between floors. The Withers House cleverly uses common materials such as asphalt shingles and corrugated steel sheets, transforming this cabin in the woods into a miniature art museum.
