Features: Finally, I have a completely new collection. After compiling this little book, I breathed a sigh of relief. Perhaps I can apologize to my readers here. Although I had hoped that my rough writing would always be new with each book, it never quite happened. Not only in the past, but even in the recent Yi Ce Shan He, there are still a few old pieces. The various reasons are not worth mentioning again. It’s always bad to make readers buy books with repeated content. This collection includes 29 short and long essays from 2001 to 2002, and as of today, it is my eighth collection in line. It doesn’t represent any major shift or change; it’s still some reflections from wandering in the rural areas of Northwest China, some thoughts on self-directed learning, and some statements on facing right and wrong. In just two years, I’ve written so little that sometimes I’m amazed at my own "paucity of words." This doesn’t seem like the style of a "freelance writer" who lives by writing. But then again, I feel I’ve written too much and have even used up so much space that I’ve even moved from literature into academia. I no longer yearn for my carefree past, nor do I wait for a future where I can pour out everything. If I must say something to my readers here, I can only say: I will do my best.
