Features: In the past decade, with the widespread popularity and development of amateur wind bands, more and more people in society have started learning the flute. At the same time, various types of flute teaching materials have emerged. If flute teaching materials were scarce a decade ago and moderately scarce five years ago, then in the past two years, they have sprouted like mushrooms after rain, with many versions available, no longer considered scarce. According to the compilers' incomplete statistics, more than ten different types of flute tutorials have been published, along with three dedicated scales and arpeggio practice books, five collections of selected foreign classical pieces and their guides, and six or seven foreign exercise books. Additionally, four or five amateur examination teaching materials have been released. Among them, only the various publishing houses in Beijing have published as many as fourteen, creating a fierce market competition. However, to this day, there is still no Chinese collection of flute solo pieces (or Chinese flute teaching pieces), and in this regard, even if not scarce, it is still a deficiency. So, is it necessary to publish a Chinese flute collection? I believe the answer is yes, for the following reasons:
First, we cannot let Chinese children and (a large number of flute enthusiasts) play only foreign pieces from the beginning to the end of their learning, nor can they become familiar with foreign flute repertoire without being familiar with Chinese flute repertoire. This is incomplete. Therefore, to provide comprehensive music education, we need a Chinese flute collection.
Second, as teaching materials, they cannot only include parts without complete piano accompaniment scores, as this is not conducive to improving teaching and performance levels. Many of the published flute tutorials, although they include some Chinese folk songs and Chinese pieces, only provide parts without piano accompaniment scores, making the music incomplete and the teaching materials inadequate.
Third, for international exchanges, we need a Chinese flute collection. Since the reform and opening-up, many foreign flute experts have come to China for teaching and performing tours. To show friendship, they often give us some sheet music, but we have no decent Chinese flute collection to return as gifts, which makes us feel awkward.
