Visual·Body·Text: Interpreting Western Art

Author: Geng Youzhuang
Publisher:
Publish Date: 2003-01-01
Features: This book attempts to conduct an in-depth rethinking of Western art history. Although the chapters are arranged in chronological order, it does not intend to be a comprehensive art history. Instead, the cultural spirit in the development of Western art remains the central theme of exploration. Therefore, while painting is the primary art form discussed by the readers in this book, sculpture, architecture, poetry, drama, and music are also covered. The philosophies, religions, and social thoughts of different historical periods are also given thorough consideration. At the same time, although the author consciously employs various Western modern theories in the discussion, the historical and formal analysis of specific works still constitutes the main content of the book.
