Features: China's per capita annual consumption of milk and dairy products is only 2.5% of that of developed countries and 7% of the world average. With the implementation of the nation's "A Glass of Milk to Strengthen a Nation" campaign, student milk programs, and partial milk programs, China's milk consumption is set to grow rapidly. Domestic dairy enterprises are competing fiercely to expand production capacity, and the competition to control milk sources is intensifying, with the tight supply situation proving difficult to alleviate. After joining the WTO, China's agriculture has faced significant challenges. Livestock farming is a labor-intensive industry, and the price difference between domestic and international livestock products is substantial, making it one of the most potentially competitive sectors in China's agricultural industry. Dairy farming, in particular, is a golden industry that does not compete with humans for food resources, effectively utilizing large amounts of forage and crop straw, and is a sector prioritized by the national industrial restructuring.
With economic development and rising living standards, consumers are increasingly demanding higher quality fresh milk and dairy products. Currently, the main factor limiting China's dairy market competitiveness is the issue of product quality. While expanding dairy farming scales, relying on technological advancements to achieve efficient and high-quality industrial production is key to the development of China's dairy industry. Only by fully considering the biological characteristics of dairy cows, understanding the factors and harms affecting milk production, and mastering scientific feeding and management techniques can we effectively prevent diseases, achieve a win-win situation of increased production and high quality, and promote the healthy development of the dairy farming industry.
This book focuses on introducing the current status and future prospects of dairy cows, including their breeds, physical characteristics, production performance, nutrition and feed, reproduction and artificial insemination, and feeding and management.
