Features: Many years ago, it was felt that a comprehensive index of titles in the collected works of Yuan scholars would be highly beneficial, and some preliminary work was done, but it was not fully realized. Now, the "Comprehensive Classified Index of Titles in Yuan Scholars' Collected Works" compiled by Comrade Lu Junling has been officially published, which is good news for researchers of Yuan history. The collected works of Yuan scholars contain extremely rich materials on Yuan history. Both Tu Ji's "History of the Mongols" and Ke Shaohai's "New History of the Yuan Dynasty" made full use of these works. Professor Chen Yuan'an's famous work "The Sinicization of Westerners in the Yuan Dynasty" can be said to have been primarily written based on the materials from the collected works of Yuan scholars. The historical records in these works can correct and supplement the errors and omissions in the "History of the Yuan Dynasty."
In Volume 93 of the "History of the Yuan Dynasty" under the chapter "Food and Taxation," it states, "When the tax on individuals is less than the tax on land, land tax is paid; when the tax on land is less than the tax on individuals, individual tax is paid." According to Hu Zhitong's "Complete Collection of Zishan," the tax on individuals and land was divided between military households and civilian households, with military households paying land tax and civilian households paying individual tax, making this very clear.
In Volume 125 of the "History of the Yuan Dynasty" under the biography of Sai Tianchi Zhan sidin, only his grandson Umaer's appointment as the Minister of State Affairs in the Jiangzhe Provincial Administration is mentioned. However, in Ren ShiLin's "Collected Works of Mr. Songxiang," the "Stele for Sai Tianchi Ronglu Gong's Ancestral Deities" (Volume 1) and the "Record of Transporting Grain from Jiangzhe Province" (Volume 2) provide more detailed accounts of Umaer's deeds, which can supplement the omissions in the "History of the Yuan Dynasty."
The "History of the Yuan Dynasty" has very limited records of the relationship between Western princes and the Yuan court. Xu Youren's "Zhi Zheng Collection" (Volume 53) includes the "Stele for the Western Envoy Hajji Haxin," which is an excellent supplementary historical source.
The annals of Siam mention that King Gengmudin of Siam visited China during the Yuan Dynasty, but the "History of the Yuan Dynasty" does not provide a clear explanation. However, Gong Shitai's "Wanzhai Collection" (Volume 9) includes the "Stele of the Siming Ciiji Temple," which specifically states that Yang Xiu "served the Song Dynasty as a maritime supervisor and, upon entering the Yuan Dynasty, was sent as an envoy to Siam, bringing its ruler to court." This ruler who came to court is Gengmudin.
Examples like the above can be cited in great numbers. This book is divided into three main parts: biographies of figures, historical events and institutions, and literary and miscellaneous writings. The classification of titles is primarily based on the content they reflect.
