Features: The Liao History (Liaoshi) comprises 160 volumes, compiled by Tuo Tuo and others during the Yuan Dynasty. It records the history of the Liao regime for over two hundred years (907–1125 AD). It also includes accounts of the earlier history of the Khitan people and the Western Liao established by Yelü Dashi at the end of the Liao Dynasty. The Khitan were one of the ancient ethnic groups in Chinese history, with records in historical texts such as the Book of Wei and the Book of Sui. In the late Tang Dynasty, feudal warlords seized and divided the fruits of peasant uprisings, establishing their own rule in various regions of Central China and the South. Meanwhile, the Khitan noble Yelü Abaoji (Liao Taizu) founded the Liao Dynasty in the northern territories of his homeland. It was a regime primarily led by Khitan nobles, united with some Han landlords and upper-class members of other ethnic groups.
