Features: Many readers, especially young ones, enjoy biographies as they seek to draw nourishment, inspiration, and motivation from them. Biographies of world-renowned figures are particularly beloved by young people. These individuals are the cream of historical figures, most of whom have struggled fiercely at the forefront of their times, or have propelled the progress of world civilization with their profound thoughts and wisdom, or have deeply influenced the course of history through their formidable political careers, or have benefited humanity with their remarkable achievements in the natural sciences. Of course, like ordinary people, any famous or great individual is limited by history and has certain shortcomings. Commercial Press has always attached great importance to the translation and publication of biographies. Since the 1980s, this translation work has been carried out more systematically, with the strong support and assistance of the translation community and the reading public, over 100 titles have been published in the form of monographs or popular readers. However, due to the past publication of these biographies as individual volumes, they were not easily accessible in a systematic manner, making it inconvenient for readers to study and reference. Therefore, we have decided to first select biographies of representative figures from different eras, countries, and ethnic groups from the previously published works and compile them into this series of "Biographies of World Famous Figures." We will also continue to add new topics. The original translations will be printed as they are, and the translations will not be reproofread, with inconsistent formatting. All available prefaces and postfaces from the original translations have been retained, with minor revisions to some of them. For the newly added translations, we will strive to make them richer in scientific and knowledge-based content while maintaining the comprehensive and vivid characteristics of the existing selections, thereby better meeting the needs of readers.
