Features: When readers are unfamiliar with the meanings of a word's cognates or derivatives, they tend to assume that the word and its cognates or derivatives are largely the same in meaning. In reality, many cognates or derivatives have no direct relationship with the root word, and arranging them together can easily lead to confusion in vocabulary memorization, making it difficult for readers to grasp and remember the meanings accurately. The "Inverted Order Memorization Handbook for College English CET Vocabulary" employs an inverted ordering method. Inverted ordering refers to arranging vocabulary in alphabetical order based on the last letter of the word. This approach offers two benefits: First, it avoids the illusion caused by traditional ordering, ensuring more accurate vocabulary recognition and memorization. In the inverted memorization arrangement, the order of cognates or derivatives is disrupted, making the words vertically aligned unrelated in meaning. Readers cannot rely on recognizing one word to guess the meaning of subsequent cognates or derivatives and must memorize each word individually. This prevents the pitfalls of inferring meanings from context or making assumptions, thereby achieving accurate memorization. Second, it leverages the rhythmic effect of identical endings to aid memorization. When the last letters of words are the same, their pronunciations are also similar. In inverted ordering, words with the same ending are grouped together, and when read aloud, they produce identical trailing sounds, much like poetry has a rhythm. Rhyming poetry is easier to remember, and English words arranged in rhyme are more catchy, naturally facilitating memorization. The purpose of compiling this inverted memorization handbook is not to require readers to adopt an inverted approach to vocabulary memorization in the future, but rather to use it as a tool to assess the accuracy of their vocabulary memorization after initially learning them in traditional order. During this assessment, readers can review vocabulary while also correcting potential errors in their memory.
