Features: This book elaborates on various aspects of compilers: lexical analysis, syntax analysis, abstract syntax, semantic behavior, intermediate representation, instruction selection through tree matching, data flow analysis, color graph register allocation, and runtime systems. It covers new techniques in code generation and register allocation well, and also includes the compilation of functional programming languages and object-oriented programming languages. The widely accepted and successfully applied technologies in the book are briefly described rather than listing all possible variables. The detailed description of compiler module interfaces is illustrated in the form of true Java classes. The "Compiler Basics" section of the book is suitable for an introductory compiler course lasting one semester. The second part, "Advanced Topics," includes: compilation of object-oriented and functional programming languages, dead code elimination, loop optimization, static single assignment form, instruction scheduling, and cache-memory priority optimization. This part can be used for a second semester compiler course or a graduate-level course. This new edition has been substantially rewritten based on the original, incorporating more Java and object-oriented programming concepts. A unique feature is the inclusion of a compiler project for a subset of the Java language, rewritten in Java itself. This project includes front-end and back-end design phases, allowing students to build a complete, runnable compiler within one semester. This book is suitable for computer science majors in universities, for Java programming language and compiler courses.
