Features: This book is a volume of the "Environmental Engineering Handbook" organized and compiled by Higher Education Press. Based on the "three principles" of reduction, harmless treatment, and resource utilization for solid waste pollution prevention, the book is divided into 5 parts and 25 chapters. Part 1 is the General Introduction, including 5 chapters on the definition, characteristics, and classification of solid waste; pollution sources; sampling, analysis, and detection; environmental impact and pollution control; and environmental pollution management systems, providing a comprehensive analysis of the basic relationship between solid waste and environmental pollution. Part 2 covers the technology for the reduction of solid waste, including 8 chapters on the collection and transportation of solid waste; pretreatment; sludge thickening, conditioning, and dewatering; composting treatment of organic solid waste; biogas treatment; hydrolysis and saccharification treatment of waste cellulose; incineration and pyrolysis treatment, respectively discussing the principles and technical methods for reducing solid waste. Part 3 focuses on the harmless treatment and disposal technology of solid waste, including 5 chapters on stabilization/fixation technology for hazardous waste; land treatment and disposal; sanitary landfill disposal of municipal solid waste; safe disposal of hazardous waste; and radioactive solid waste and its safe disposal, respectively discussing the principles and technical methods for harmless treatment and disposal of solid waste. Part 4 covers the resource utilization technology of solid waste, including 7 chapters on the solid waste resource utilization system and waste exchange system, as well as resource utilization technology for municipal solid waste, mining and energy, iron and steel industry, chemical industry, petrochemical industry, and non-ferrous metal industry, providing in-depth discussions on relatively mature waste recycling and utilization technologies in each industry. In Appendix I of Part 5, 10 case studies are also listed. Additionally, the book includes three documents: the National List of Hazardous Waste, Solubility Product Constants of Insoluble Compounds, and China's Solid Waste Law. This book is suitable for environmental sanitation, environmental protection engineering design, and related scientific research and management technical personnel, as well as students and faculty of relevant disciplines in colleges and universities, and professional management personnel for learning and reference.
