Materials Mechanics Problem Solving Guide and Exercise Book

Author: Department of Mechanics of Materials, Tsinghua University

Publish Date: 1999-06-01
Features: This book is based on the 120-hour teaching syllabus for Mechanics of Materials (draft) used in four-year mechanical, civil engineering, water conservancy, and aviation programs in higher industrial schools. It takes into account the needs of both full-time students and those in television, correspondence, or self-study programs. It was revised and expanded from the "Solutions Manual for Mechanics of Materials" published in 1964. The book consists of twenty-two chapters plus six major project problems. Chapters 1 to 16 primarily cover fundamental content, including some specialized topics, while Chapters 17 to 22 focus on specialized topics. Answers to general exercises are provided at the end of the book, and reference charts are compiled in the appendix. Each chapter includes three parts: an overview, examples, and exercises. The overview summarizes the basic theories, methods, and conclusions of each chapter but emphasizes content relevant to the exercises. The examples illustrate the application of basic theories, methods, and conclusions, demonstrate problem-solving steps, and highlight key points to note. There are approximately 1,000 exercises in total, with about 70% meeting basic requirements, 20% requiring further effort, and 10% being challenging. Specialized and challenging exercises are marked with an asterisk ().
